“Magenta Series 3” continues the theme of Asheville artist Carol Fetty’s “Magenta Series” with further exploration of our private, vulnerable moments of introspection. In this original mixed-media painting, a woman’s figure conveys complex themes of reckoning with the past while standing confidently in the present. The woman stands tall and graceful, yet exposed to the world around her. She casts a long shadow on the wall behind her that engulfs half of her figure. She looks over her shoulder, acknowledging the dark shadow behind her, but grounds herself with a hug, entertaining the shadow but not letting it swallow her completely. The woman’s shadow is a symbol of the adversity the woman has been faced with in her past.
This painting will stand as a powerful reminder that light and dark can co-exist in a healthy way and will encourage any viewer to face their shadows with strength.
